Donostia-San Sebastian. Eusko Ikaskuntza has opened the nominations for this year’s ENE award that recognizes the work done in favor of the Basque language by groups and entities in the Diaspora. Previous winners include: Sustraiak-Erroak in Paris (2010), The North American Basque Organizations-NABO (2009), Bordeaux’s Basque Club (2008), Barcelona’s Basque Club (2007) and Artaburu Euskaltzale Elkartea, from Mar de Plata, Argentina (2006).
The selection process begins with this phase of open nominations in which any organization that promotes Euskara in the Diaspora is eligible. The word promotion is understood as the dissemination of the Basque language in all its forms: education, literature, oral, film, and creativity as outlined by Eusko Ikakuntza in its nomination notice.
Entities interested in participating should send EuskoSare an email that includes a summary - not exceeding the equivalent of five A-4 pages - of its activity, detailing everything that they want to be taken into account: date of foundation of the organization; annual activities regarding Basque; where appropriate, number of students; publications and the like; distinctions and awards, etc.
The deadline for nominations is midnight on November 25, 2011. A committee selected by Eusko Ikaskuntza will decide the winner. The winner will then be announced on December 3rd on the International Day of Euskara, a celebration promoted by Eusko Ikaskuntza since 1949. The prize includes public recognition along with a model reproduction of the anagram, in iron and stainless steel, designed especially for the ENE prize by Nestor Basterretxea.
