Thanks to the commitment and work of its members, the Zelaiko Euskal Etxea in La Pampa has had an interesting revival lately. Besides the traditional monthly get-togethers they have also added Basque classes, the choir and a club newsletter. Happy and with projects for the New Year, members and friends of the club in Santa Rosa closed 2015 with a BBQ, dancing and recognitions.
Santa Rosa, Argentina. Members of the Board of the Zelaiko Euskal Etxea told EuskalKultura.com that they are very satisfied with 2015. The work done has been reflected in the end of year festivities, a lunch that was attended by many, music, dancing and maybe most important, good friends getting together to accompany the club in its celebration.
The lunch took place on the last Sunday of November and gathered nearly 120 people including a delegation from the Euzko Alkartasuna in Macachin, led by its president, Iñaki Unamuno. There were also two youth from Euskadi present that are currently studying at the University of La Pampa, Santi Ruiz from Galarreta in Vitoria-Gasteiz and Antton Sanchez from Gernika.
The music and color of the festivities were thanks to the dantzaris from Macachin who performed typical dances from Aurresku to the traditional San Miguel. Singing, however, was thanks to local tango singer, Hector Bergonzi. There were also surprises like the presentation of a poetry CD to the club by a blind local poet, Adolfo “Terete” Dominguez, and the framed newspaper presented to the club by Mrs. Chiquita García Casarrota Baraybar.
Members of Zelaiko Euskal Etxea also gave presents to the dantzaris from Macachin and its president, Iñaki Unamuno, thanking them for attending. The gifts were made by a local artisan, and member of the club, Carlos Rincon. Valeria Garcia Oyarzabal told EuskalKultura.com that “the presents for the dancers and Mr. Unamuno were in recognition for hosting us at Semana Vasca as well as continuing to collaborate with us, dancing at our events.”
Looking to next year, the idea is to continue this revival of activities and to continue providing the community of Santa Rosa the best of the Basque culture. “That is why we will continue our Basque classes, the choir, as well as try to concretize a Basque film series,” the current club Basque teacher explained.
