At the lunch to celebrate the Day of the May Revolution, Arantxa Soraluce with her daughters, Itziar and Ainhoa Aguirre in Zazpi’s kitchen
The people in charge of preparing the meal were the well-known sukaldaris (chefs) Arantxa Soraluce and Itziar Aguirre. At the same luncheon, members of Zazpirak Bat celebrated May 25th and the day of San Prudencio. Along with this news, the club also invites everyone to another event: a tribute to the Argentine flag that the women’s group, Emakume Abertzale Batza, will hold on June 11th.
Rosario, Argentina. It is normal that Basque clubs around the world fuse Basque culture with the local one. That is why a large number of clubs in Argentina joined in the festivities for another anniversary of the May Revolution last May 25th. On this date that is important for Argentineans, members of the Rosario Basque club fused both cultures by celebrating the Day of the Argentine Homeland with a huge porotada with red beans Tolosa style. Attracted by the menu, a large number of members and friends came to the clubhouse to enjoy a dish especially prepared for the occasion by Chefs Arantxa Soraluce and Itziar Aguirre.
As club president, Luis Maria Barrandeguy explained to EuskalKultura.com, “along with the Day of the May Revolution and because of the proximity of the dates, we also celebrated the Day of San Prudencio, the patron Saint of Araba. As every year, once the meal was over then truco and canasta tournaments ensued and the event lasted until evening.”
A Tea in Honor of the Flag
Along the same lines of fusing the two cultures, the Basque club’s Basque Women’s Association, Emakume Abertzale Batza, will hold a “Tea in honor of the Flag,” on June 11th. Argentina celebrates Flag Day on June 20, the day that its creator, Manuel Belgrano passed away.
The event will begin at 4pm on the first-floor of the clubhouse, and tickets can be reserved until June 8 at the club’s office, or by calling: 0341-421 7670. In the afternoon there will be raffles with proceeds going to charity.
