Carmen de Patagones, Argentina. The Patagonian Sovereignty Festival has one main goal: to commemorate the victory in the battle between the locals and Brazil’s imperial marine troops on March 7, 1827.
On its 187th Anniversary, the event once again gathered a large number of people and above all a large number of performers who provided top-notch spectacles throughout the entire week. Among the artists were Victor Heredia, Chaqueño Palavecino and Los Tekis, to name a few, along with local entities, such as museums, cultural and community groups.

Following the tradition of the last few years, the Beti Aurrera Aberri Etxea was in charge of representing the Basque Country at the event. They did so by waving the Ikurriña in the parade dressed in traditional costumes. They also took advantage of the opportunity to do a few traditional dances along the way.
Remember that Beti Aurrera Aberri Etxea gathers Basque descendants in two Argentinean towns: Viedma (Rio Negro) and Carmen de Patagones (Buenos Aires).
Participation in the Patagonian Sovereignty Festival marks the beginning of the 2014 activities for members of Beti Aurrera. The next event will take place on March 26th when Basque classes will begin. These will take place on Wednesdays from 15:30-17:00 and 17:00-19:30 with Delia Beatriz Etchegaray teaching.
