Parana, Argentina. Encouraged by the success of “La casita de mis viejos” (My Parents’ House) in various theaters in the city during 2013, by the theater group at Urrundik will now perform a new piece at the clubhouse. 

“La casita de mis viejos,” was an adaptation form the text by Marucio Katrun.  “It is about the permanent return of people to the places of their childhood. An entire company of actresses takes to the stage surrounded by this theme,” explains director Augusto Carballa to the El Diario in Parana.  For this occasion, the company’s first performance of 2014, the cast is comprise of Mireya Alcain, Ana María Cóceres, Blanca Díaz, Marta Echagüe, María Isabel García, Elena Ludi and Susana Schiavoni.  The event is this Friday the 21^st at 21:30 on the Basque club’s patio where there will also be refreshments.  Admission is $30.

Local Classics and International Guests

Looking at 2013, the Association’s president, Juan Carlos Borras, told EuskalKultura.com that the activities will begin as part of the usual club offerings, that is to say, dance for children and adults; tango and Argentine folklore classes; and a chess workshop for children and adolescents.

As every year, the club’s anniversary festivities will take place along with that of the Presencia Vasca radio program that is celebrating 24 years on the air.  Borras also told us that Basque singer Joseba Gotzon will also perform at the club on May 3^rd.  the concert will take place at the February 3 Theater and will be attended by Galician musician and composer Xoán Curiel.

The president also let us know that Urrundik will also participate in the Festival of Communities in San Benito on September 7^th, which is near Parana.  He also let us know that the dancers will return to the February 3 Theater for the Great Festival of Basque Dance in Parana on the 18^th of September.  “This is a fixed date on our calendar and we hope that it is for the rest of the city.  Our goal is to consolidate this show that attracted nearly 50 dancers last year,” said Borras.

In the meantime, everything is ready at the clubhouse for the theater group’s performance.  “We thought it was a good idea to resume our activities with theater outdoors, taking advantage of the summer weather.  The only limitation is that of space, so that is why it will take place on the patio.  This is also why we are requesting that folks wishing to attend reserve a spot,” said the president.  Reservations can be made by calling: 0343-4317676.
