The University of Navarre will begin a free online course on Navarre’s history and culture in January

The University of Navarre will begin a free online course entitled, “Navarre: History and Culture.”  The contents will be presented in an audio-visual format; with supplementary written materials, self-assessments and a forum where the students can communicate with their teachers.  It is comprised of 10 modules.  After opening the course, the student can join at any time, as long as it is completed by the deadline, February 18 at 23:59 European continental time. 

Iruña-Pamplona, Navarre.   The course “Navarre: History and Culture” is a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course.)  The MOOC courses are free online available through several academic centers and institutions that provide higher education.  The contest will be presented in an audio-visual formal; with supplementary written material provided, self-assessments, and a forum where students can contact their teachers.

The MOOC “Navarre: History and Culture” will cover the history of the foral community through 10 study modules.  This will begin with how to define a territory as well as its geographic peculiarities and its legal framework.  The course will talk about archeologic finds that have been preserved since prehistory and ancient history.  It includes the roman occupation moving to the middle ages and the official founding of the kingdom.

“The student will be able to admire the artistic heritage of the Baroque period to finish by analyzing the changes over the last centuries that have given way to contemporary Navarre.   All of this will help participants to more deeply understand what the provincial community is today, and appreciate the cultural riches,” Marta Doblas from the Service of Educational Quality and Innovation at the University of Navarre told EuskalKultura.com.

Module 2. Navarre, the Crossroads of European Prehistory Beginning date 1/7/18
Module 3. The Bascons and the Integration of Navarre in the Roman Orbit Beginning date 1/14/18
Module 4. Christians vs Muslims: The Creation of the Kingdom of Navarre Beginning date 1/14/18
Module 5. The Late Middle Ages in Navarre (XIV-XV Centuries) Beginning date 1/21/18
Module 6. The Conquest of Navarre (1512-1521) Beginning date 1/21/18
Module 7. The Century of Baroque Beginning date 1/28/18
Module 8. The XVIII Century Beginning date 1/28/18
Module 9. The Transformation of the XIX Century Beginning date 2/4/18
Module 10. The Changes in the XX Century XX 2/4/18

Once the course and the module is open, each student can join whenever he/she wants to, but must complete it by the closing date, February 18, 2018 at 23:59pm European Continental time.

Professors include: Julia Pavón Benito, Juan José Pons Izquierdo, Javier Andreu Pintado, Javier Ilundain, María Narbona Cárceles, Carolina Montoro, Félix Segura, María del Mar Larraza Micheltorena, Agustín González Enciso, Dolores López-Hernández, Mercedes Galán Lorda, Javier Armendáriz, Jesús M. Usunáriz, Francisco Javier Caspitegui Gorasurreta and Naiara Ardanaz Iñarga.

The course runs seven weeks (estimated 14 hours of study)
