Bahia Blanca, Argentina. During the last weekend in April, members and friends of the Union Vasca commemorated another anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika and celebrated the Day of the Basque Homeland. The anniversary of the bombing took place on April 26th with an event that took place at the clubhouse and began with the allusive words and verses of the Gernikako Arbola by Iparragirre. Following the short Ambidextrous was shown, a film about the Spanish Civil War. This film also served to open the club’s film series that will run throughout the year.
Activities on Sunday the 27th began at 11am with the Aberri Eguna mass celebrated in the San Luis Gonzaga church. In honor of the Day of the Basque Homeland parts of the mass were also sung in Basque by the club’s choir and students. As part of the ceremony, club dancers, Beti Aurrera, performed the Gipuzkoako Ezpatadantza.
