Iruñea-Pamplona. San Fermin 2014 is just around the corner and in places like Pamplona and Lesaka excitement is already in the air. In the Diaspora, many Navarrese and Basque clubs and centers will celebrate the event with special enthusiasm, like at Gure Txoko in Sydney where tickets have already sold out for the San Fermin dinner, one of the club’s liveliest events.
In London, the London Basque Society has once again organized a San Fermin vent that will take place on Saturday. The day will begin at the Oxford House, club locale, with the traditional “encierro.” There won’t be real bulls, but the party spirit would be the envy of those in Lesaka and Pamplona. Afterwards there will be a BBQ at the London Fields Park.
Picnic in Vancouver
In Canada, the Zazpiak Bat Basque club in British Columbia will celebrate San Fermin at Hume Park, also on Saturday with a picnic with activities until dusk. The menu includes chorizo and marmitako and according to organizers there will be various activities: swimming, tennis, kid’s games and fun in the water park.
In Venezuela, the Euskal Etxea in Carabobo (Valencia) will celebrate this Saturday at the Coromoto starting at 1pm.
The first 'Sao Firmino'
In Brazil, the Alkartasuna Basque club in Sao Paulo will celebrate its first ever “1ª Festa de Sao Firmino” on Sunday, July 6th. This will take place at their headquarters in Gernika Kuttun (R: Angelo Montecilli, 270), beginning at 11am. The program will somewhat follow San Fermin: Txupinazo, meal and Pobre de Mi.
In Australia, the Gure Txoko Basque club in Sydney will also celebrate on Sunday. This is one of the most prominent Basque club activities which attracts many members and friends. This year won’t be any different with meal tickets already being sold out.
Entzierro with heifers in Caracas
In Mexico, the Mexico City Basque club has organized a meal to celebrate San Fermin on July 12th at the clubhouse. The menu will include: Sumiri of crab in corn ramekins, soup, Pamplona filet with potatoes and peppers and dessert.
In Caracas, Venezuela, the Basque club will celebrate the event in style, but not until next Saturday July 12th. Then, as in previous years, there will be an encierro with the traditional three San Fermin songs and heifers – this time real ones – plus: three bulls of the Tribiño Livestock. In prior years one of them escaped the arena to create images and anecdotes that lasted for years. We’ll see what happens this year!
