The offer is aimed at Basque clubs who wish to be included in the annual Basque film activities.  The proposal not only includes screenings but also the delivery of allusive material and debate afterwards, guided by expert Carlos Gabilondo.  Remember this is free to Basque clubs.  Clubs are encouraged to reserve dates as soon as possible, to facilitate travel and title selection.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   The Traveling Basque Film project is beginning another year of screenings, its sixth season in a row, and as always, it extends an invitation to all Basque clubs in Argentina to take advantage of the opportunity.

Coordinated by Carlos Gabilondo, with the invaluable collaboration of Norma Carrizo, the Traveling Basque Film continues with a clear goal: to diffuse Basque film, the classics as well as the newer films, especially, but not exclusively, in Basque clubs.  This opportunity is free to the clubs.  Each film screening is complemented with other materials for audience members, and each is accompanied by a short film as a warm up.  After the main attraction, there is always a discussion, allowing audience members to ask questions etc.

The 2017 calendar is being finalized.  In order to complete it, and to make sure that clubs who have traditionally participate are included as well as others who would like to join in, please get in touch as soon as possible to secure your dates and film choices.  You can contact those in charge via Facebook, or via email: jubilondo@gmail.com or by phone: 11 6013 0092.

Six Years in a Row

The first screening of the year will take place on March 3rd at Euskaltzaleak, an institution that saw the project come to life.  The event will begin at 20:30, and the short film will be Un Dulce, by Luis Vil from Araba.  The full-length film will be Gure sor ekuaren bila by Josu Martinez, from Bilbao.

The usual Basque clubs will participate again in this year’s series, along with some new once like Capilla del Señor in the Province of Buenos Aires, where a Basque Cultural Center is being built; or the Comahue Euskal Etxea in Neuquen.  Both of these dates are scheduled in April.

Without a doubt, the invitation which had the most impact on its followers is the one received in Cuba.  In the words of Gabilondo, “The Havana Basque Club in Cuba, celebrated its 140th anniversary this year and they contacted us interested in the film series.  Although we are ready to do whatever it takes in order to be able to travel there and show the films, just the fact that they are interested in us is a point of great pride and joy,” Gabilondo said.

Debuts

Carlos Gabilondo himself anticipates having some new titles to add to the long list that the Film Series already provides: “Gure sor lekuaren bila and Lejos del Mar by Imanol Uribe are new this year. We also provide three documentarist by Angel Gonzalez Katarain filmed in Cuba and the Basque Country.  And keeping the 80th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika in April in mind, of course there will be other films and shorts that would be appropriate,” he concluded.
