The first Basque Film Series organized by the Gure Etxea Basque Club in Tandil, Argentina at the INCAA (National Institute of Film and Audiovisual Airs) local facilities allowed the screening of Amama and Loreak on the big screen. The proposal was very successful and may be a precedent for events at other INCAA Space in the country.
Tandil, Argentina. Even if screening Basque films has become a normal activity in Basque clubs, it is still difficult to spread cinematographic material produced in Euskal Herria outside the realm of Basque clubs. Difficult but not impossible for Gure Etxea in Tandil. One of the initiatives strongly supported, especially, by the club’s Basque teacher, Ines Olazabal, took place August 27-28 at a Basque Film series at the INCAA Space in Tandil.
As the Basque teacher explained to EuskalKultura.com, “I have wanted to organize something for some time knowing that the INCAA Space had just hosted a similar event. That is why I met with the director of the Space, Carla Martinez, to explain my proposal to her. She like it very much and we then set a date after I gave her a list of titles. She then chose those that she felt were the most appropriate for the series,” the teacher said.
Choosing Amama by Asier Altuna, and Loreak by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga was more than successful: “The audience was very happy with the event and congratulated us. Moreover, they asked us to repeat the experience, and we hope to do it again next year. It was also a good experience for the INCAA Space who, according to them, said it was one of the most successful film series it has had. As such it has communicated with other INCAA Spaces in the country to see if they could also host a similar series, and so we are very proud,” Olazabal said.
