Donostia-San Sebastián. As we previously announced, EuskalKultura.eus will begin Echoes of Two Wars1936-1945, in its blog section today. This blog written by the Sancho de Beurko Association, based in Vitoria-Gasteiz will provide contents at the heart of the Fighting Basques. Memory of World War II, with special emphasis on stories of Basques in the United States, to which stories about those on the Basque Front during the Spanish Civil War will be added.
The contents are the result of original research carried out by members of the aforementioned non-profit historical association, and in particular that done by expert Diaspora historian, Pedro J Oiarzabal and his colleagues Guillermo Tabernilla and Josu M. Aguirregabiria, in charge of providing the blog’s contents every two weeks.
Entitled, Navarrese Marine Federico Clavería, the First SGM Correspondent the article that inaugurates the blog today talks about the case of Marine, Federico Claveria, son of Saturnino Claveria Razquin from Altsasu, a member of the first generation of correspondents in the history of the US Marine Corps.
His name is part of a cast of Basque war correspondents, albeit civilians, who preceded him, such as the historic Cecilia García de Guillarte (Tolosa, Gipuzkoa, 1915-1989), who covered the Northern Front during the Civil War in 1936, or Manu Leguineche (Arratzu, Bizkaia, 1941, Madrid, 2014), or the most recent Jon Sistiaga (Irun, Gipuzkoa, 1967), Mikel Ayestaran (Beasain, Gipuzkoa, 1967) or Ane Irazabal (Arrasate, Gipuzkoa, 1984).
A new chapter in our history that inaugurates today’s Echoes of Two Wars1936-1945 blog.
