Havana, Cuba. The traditional “La Huella de España” (Spanish Footprint) Festival in Havana dedicated this year's 28th edition to the Basque Country. The program included Basque singer from Bilbao, Tontxu and exhibitions of Basque pilota, film, as well as the world debut of the piece “Encierro” by the Irene Rodriguez Spanish Dance Company, performances by the Spanish Ballet of Cuba, Spanish Federations and Societies of Cuba, the Basque-Navarrese Charities Association (AVNB) and Ivette Cepeda and Luna Manzanares, among others.
According to AVNB President, Renato Garcia Egusquiza, “the festival is dedicated annually to a region of Spain. This year we presented ourselves as hosts and so we were able to acquaint Cubans and the world to the fact that we exist in Cuba. All the other dance schools representing different associations from the various autonomous regions, dance companies, the National Ballet, first class artists etc. dedicate their art to us and we take advantage of this and teach them what we are doing in Cuba to recover and Enright our historical memory,” he said.
Coinciding with the arrival in Havana of the Spanish school vessel Juan Sebastian Elcano, there was also a conference on the sailor born in Getaria, given by the ship’s commander. See program and festival reference here
