The Gazteria Basque dance group in Paris is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and between all of the celebrations, its group has marked December 19 and 20 in red on their calendars. This is when Gazteria will perform its Basque show, “Makila” created and produced in Paris, in the Basque Country. A group of 50 dantzaris, singers and musicians will take the show to the stages in Luhuso, Lapurdi.
Paris, France. The show, “Makila,” created by the Parisian Basque dance group, Gazteria and the Gernika Choir, is a review of traditional Basque dance, song and music. According to its creators, the idea of cultural transmission is at the heart of this work that includes some of the most representative and spectacular dances in Basque culture.
The work was created in Paris by the dantzaris, musicians and singers in the local Basque community. It is a work that was created one hundred percent in the Diaspora that will now travel to the Basque Country. The show will be presented at the Harri Xuri hall on December 19 and 20.
“Makila,” debuted in Paris on January 31 and was very well received, gathering an audience of more than 600 spectators. Last Saturday it was performed in Dijon as part of that city’s gala.
