Dublin, Ireland. Three Basque poets participated in the presentation of the anthology Forked Tongues, which includes poems written by them as well as other works by Miren Agur Meabe. The book is a collection of poems in Basque, Catalan and Galician translated into English. At the event, each read their work accompanied by their respective translators and all were very well received by the public according to the Etxepare Institute.
The event was attended by Mari Jose Olaziregi director of Basque Language Promotion at the Etxepare Institute, who stated that the writers aroused considerable interest in the Basque Country during their presentations as well as in the media. The trip to Ireland concluded with another presentation last Friday at the University of Cork.
Contacts in Ireland
Mari Jose Olaziregi, director of the Promotion and Diffusion of the Basque Language at Etxepare, also took advantage of the trip to make more contacts in Ireland. On Thursday she held a meeting with the Cervantes Institute in Dublin, with Rosa Leon, and she investigated new ways that the Basque creators can present in festivals and initiatives related to literature, cinema and music.
Olaziregi also held meetings with publishers like Shearmans Books and with organizers of Poetry Ireland as well as with the Irish, Spanish and Latin American Literature Festival.
