In a week July begins and the Diaspora is also getting ready for San Fermin.  The Gure Txokoa Basque Club in Azul will do so on July 7th with mass and a dinner open to the community.  Previously, and to conclude the June activities, the Basque Club will welcome tomorrow Graciana Goicoechandia, who will give them a talk on her experience after being chosen to receive the Global Teacher Prize.

Azul, Argentina.   Tomorrow, Saturday June 25th, Professor Graciana Goicoechandia will give a talk at the Gure Txokoa Basque Club in Azul about her experience of being distinguished as one of the best among 8,000 teachers from all over the world and having been selected to receive the Global Teacher Prize. The talk will address two areas, on the one hand, her performance as a computer science teacher, and using new technologies; and on the other, her experience in Dubai, where she was invited by the organization of the Global Teacher Prize to participate in the awards ceremony.  The talk will be complemented by photos of her trip.

The event will take place at the Euskal Etxea, Irigoyen 926 (corner of Castellar), at 6pm, and admission is free and open to the public.  After her talk, everyone is invited to a meal.

Remember that besides her dedication to education and to Politics, she currently holds a council seat. Goicoechandia has also served as the president of the Loretako Euskaldunak Basque Club in Las Flores for four terms.

San Fermin

The Azul Basque Club will celebrate San Fermin on July 7th, Thursday (night before the festivities on the 9th of July that was pushed back to the 8th because of the bicentennial of Argentina’s Declaration of Independence).

The program of activities will begin at 7pm with mass that the Euskal Etxea will offer at the Cathedral.  The San Fermin dinner will be at 9:30 at the Rojo Room at the Gran Hotel Azul, with the dance group participating.  Tickets cost $350 and the menu include a beverage, entrance (cold cuts, cheese, tortilla), entrée (stuffed chicken), dessert, and candy table.  Tickets can be reserved until July 4th on Facebook.

Following the club’s statutes, on May 28th Gure Txokoa held elections for its board of directors.  The new board is comprised of the following individuals:
