Mexico City, Mexico. Mexico City, Mexico. “We will celebrate Aberri Eguna from the comfinement of our homes, naturally,” Basque club sources told EuskalKultura.eus when asked about their plans for the upcoming festivities on Sunday. There is no doubt that they will celebrate, however this year it will look different and will take place at a different venue, each one celebrating from home under the motto “Zaindu maite duzun hori” (Take care of what you love).
“We will each take a picture of ourselves with this motto, with our families, or whoever we live with, poster in hand.” If you’d like to send a photo to the club, the address is provided below. “The thing is that in order for the people, the country, and society to survive at this time, it is necessary to take care of ourselves and stay at home," Iñigo Bilbao Sagastizabal told us from the Euskal Etxea.

Everyone must take care of themselves, in order to take care of others, but from a proactive stance, particularly on an occasion like Aberri Eguna. “We want to create a sort of Auzolan that gives the initiative a community character.” The first banner shared shows club president, Julen Ruiz de Azua, inviting everyone to join in on Sunday with their banners, this followed by other members of the board of directors, to in turn, Thursday through Sunday, tin include more with photos of club members and friends.” This is how the Mexico Euskal Etxea proposes to celebrate Aberri Eguna in this unique year of COVID-19.
