The Festival of European-Argentinean Communities in Bariloche that takes place annually at the Club Danes in Dina Huapi began last weekend and will conclude next Sunday, November 13th. Once again, the Basque community is part of the festival, represented, as usual, by the Mendiko Euzko Etxea. The Basque club wanted to especially highlight the commitment of its youth to this festival, “because they collaborate and back us up, and this is something that makes us very proud,” club president Hector Graña said EuskalKultura.com.
Bariloche, Argentina. The Festival of European-Argentinean Communities in Bariloche presents a large number of gastronomic and cultural offerings. The 2016 event that is celebrating its 37th edition, gathered the following communities: Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Swiss, Danish, Portuguese, Austrian, Hungarian, Slovenian and Croatian, as well as the Basques.
Following tradition, the local Mendiko Euzko Etxea Basque Club took on the responsibility of representing Euskal Herria and did so with a food stand, as well as its dance group performing on stage with more than 40 dantzaris. In regards to the stand, the Basques prepared some of the most sought-after items: rabas (squid), even if they added chorizo in cider and stew with cider as well.
The dantzaris, also guaranteed a Basque presence with their dancing at a show that iamed to pay tribute to women. For this reason, they invited Stella Maris Larraburu to the stage. She is a former president and main promoter of Basque dancing at the club. The performance included the txikis, who danced Arin Arin and the emakumes presented Sorgin Dantza; with the adults doing Sardos and Arcos.
After an extremely successful weekend, the Basque club is now getting ready for the second with the same expectations. They are even calmer knowing that they can count on a solid group that makes these events possible. In the words of the club’s president, “I would like to stress the huge support that we get from our youth. They collaborate in a number of ways and this does us good, they are truly our backup and that makes us very proud,” Graña told EuskalKultura.com.
The Festival of European-Argentinean Communities in Bariloche continues this weekend, November 12-13, beginning at noon on both days.
