On October 7th at the Retiro Park in Madrid, in the pond and the magnificent space, “Casa de Vacas” with an indoor theater and patio. The program is completely free and will begin at 10:15am with yacht races with Ur-Kirolak from Donostia and Itsasoko Ama from Santurtzi challenging the two Madrid teams. The festivities will continue with performances by Kukai, Pauline & Juliette, the Basque choir and Txistularis from Madrid, and the group Korrontzi, along with pintxos, txakoli, sagardoa…
Madrid, Spain. The Euskal Etxea Basque Club in Madrid, faithful to its foundation goal “to promote greater knowledge of the Basque Country in Madrid, supporting friendly relations with neighbors and residents of Madrid,” has organized “Euskal Jaia 2017” that will take place on Saturday, October 7th at the El Retiro Park. There will be yacht racing in the pond and various performances by several Basque artistic and folkloric groups on the patio, as well as in the indoor auditorium in the Casa de Vacas. AT THE POND
- From 10:15-11:30: Yacht Racing with Ur-Kirolak from Donostia and Itsasoko Ama from Santurtzi against the local teams. Two races per via (two by to, to choose the lane) and the final regatta final (four boats). Challenge Euskadi-Madrid. Entertainment provided by Madrid Basque club Txistularis
- From 11:45-12:00: Award ceremonies, next to the pond
AT THE CASA DE VACAS
- From 12:15-13:45: Performance by the Kukai Dantza Taldea. Contemporary Basque dance performing “Soka.’ Músic and dance on the outside stage and on the patio
- From 17:45-18:45 Concert by the Basque Orchestra in Madrid at the Euskal Etxea theater
- From 19:00-20:00: Performance by the vocal duo from Iparralde Pauline & Juliette, on the outside stage
- From 20:15-21:30: Performance by Korrontzi, Basque folk group including participation from Euskal Etxea’s dance group. Music and dancing on the outside stage
All performances are free and open to the public with the invitation being extended to Basques and lovers of the Basque culture in general, and in particular, “to the people, our neighbors and citizens of this city that over time has welcomed so many Basques,” club vice-president, Julio Elejalde, explains.
