Frankfurt, Germany. The Basque language and culture lecturer at Goethe University in Frankfurt has organized the first Literature Contest in Basque in Germany. In order to participate you have to reside in Germany and be a Basque student, but you don’t have to be enrolled in the university. There is no age limit and there are two categories, prose and poetry.
Texts may focus on the theme, “Gernika today,” or may also be free choice. The latter could, for example, include ideas such as: the Basques, Basque culture in Germany and/or a day in the Basque Country.
Texts should be send before June 28 including the author’s name and address in a word or PDF document.
Submissions should be sent to Mikel Babiano, via email: babiano@em.uni-frankfurt.de.
Basque Film Festival
On the other hand, Basque films can be seen throughout the month of June at this University, organized by the lecturer and supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute as well as the local Cervantes Institute. The festival is already half over and on June 18 the film Arriya by Alberto J. Gorritiberea will be shown. On June 24, also a Monday, the festival will close with Torremolinos 73 by Pablo Berger from Bilbao.
The festival began with 80 egunean by directors Jon Garaño and Joxe Mari Goenaga and was followed by No habrá paz para los malvados (No Peace for the Wicked) by Enrique Urbizu.
