More than 30 directors from a dozen Basque clubs gathered last weekend in Pergamino to participate in a FEVA’s Euskal Etxea event. For two days they held activities oriented especially to club directors but also open workshops to the community. The Pergamino Basque Club is very satisfied with the weekend, especially since it allowed them to gather “face to face, which is imperative today between Basque club managers.”
Pergamino, Argentina. The Basque Club event convened by FEVA took place on September 30-October 1st in Pergamino. The Lagun Onak Basque Club hosted the event for the first time and welcomed more than 30 members of Basque clubs in Arrecifes, Buenos Aires (Laurak Bat), José C Paz, Córdoba (Gerora), Junín, Rosario, Bahía Blanca, Posadas, Bahía Blanca, Chivilcoy, Necochea, Mar del Plata and San Nicolás.
With such a high attendance of clubs, the activities began on Saturday morning with a welcome by FEVA authorities and the presentation “Notes for the Elaboration of a Grant Request,” coordinated by Mariana Satostegui, Technician from the Delegation of the Basque Government in Argentina. After lunch, the meetings continued with the workshop “Identification of Problems/Conflicts in Basque Clubs. Analysis and Possible Solutions,” coordinated by Ana Idigoras, from the Euskaldunak Denak Bat Basque Club in Arrecifes.
In the afternoon, they taught three workshops that were open to the community. The gastronomy workshop was done by the Basque Club in Nicolas, Mus was taught by Patxi Soraluce from Euzko Etxea in Necochea and Hugo Andiazabal, from Arbola Bat Basque Club in Junin; the tamborrada was led by the hosting club. In the words of Carlos Miguelena, “The workshops were attended by a large number of participants divided into three groups for each of the workshops. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and everyone was very happy.” The day concluded with dinner that was prepared at the gastronomy workshop.
On Sunday morning, the exchange coordinated by Ana Idigoras concluded and the hosts said goodbye to their guests with lunch. “I would also like to point out the high participation, the importance of these gatherings to make face to face contact. This contact and this direct communication is necessary so our clubs can exchange their experiences,” Miguelena stressed.
The next FEVA activity will be the Txikis Gathering on Saturday, October 7th at the Euskal Echea School in Llavallol, and the meeting of Basque clubs as part of Semana Vasca, on Saturday morning, November 11th.
