The 14th edition of Laburbira in on. The project, supported by Topagunea has the goal of providing a greater diffusion of Basque language short films made in the Basque Country as well as in the Diaspora. This year, four euskal etxeas have joined another 28 cities and communities in the Basque Country, so spectators in Paris, New York, London and Valencia will be able to see the new crop of films at their local clubs.
Donostia-San Sebastian. Four Basque clubs in Paris, New York, Valencia and London have joined the circuit, although several others were interested but due to scheduling issues these four will be the ones to screen these eight films chosen for this its 14th edition:
The shorts will be shown with Spanish subtitles at the Basque clubs that have requested them. In other cases, like that of the euskal etxea in London, the club itself will be providing English subtitles to the films. The subtitle issue is being improved since the goal of the initiative is to provide the widest dissemination possible of work done in Euskera for the euskaltzale as well as for the run of the mill movie buff, so subtitles are an interesting tool.
Schedule for the four euskal etxeas:
-March 11: Paris Euskal Etxea, at 17:00, organized by Sustraiak-Erroak
-March 11: New York Eusko Etxea, at 19:00, organized by EENY
-March 25: Laurak Basque Club in Valencia, at 19:30, organized by Laurak Bat
-April 8: London Euskal Etxea, at 18:30, organized by the London Basque Society-Euskal Elkartea
This year’s edition will also include contests aimed at spectators, in hopes of gathering their impressions and suggestions for improvements on next year’s edition of Laburbira (see here).
Finally, the organization would also encourage Diaspora creators of short films in Basque to contact them in hopes of incorporating these films in the next edition of Laburbira.
