Barranquilla, Colombia. A new initiative comes from Colombia, in this case to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, next Monday. They invite you to color the “Guernica” by Picasso and reflect on the message that the artist hoped to spread with that work, with this question: “Why do I think it is important to remember what happened in Gernika from the Diaspora?” When you finish, take a picture of your work and email it to euskobarranquilla@gmail.com by next Sunday, April 25th, according to the invitation here.
Three Basque-Colombian associations are working together on this initiative, the Gure Mendietakoak Basque Club in Caldas, Antioquia, the group “Friends of the Basque Community of Bogota,” and the collective Karibeko Euskal Etxea in Barranquilla.
The invitation adds that this coming Sunday, April 25th, they are organizing a virtual activity as part of the commemoration of the 84th anniversary of the Bombing called “Gernika, Peace and Reconciliation Colombia 2021” on Google Meet. The event begins at 4pm local time, 2pm in California; 4pm in Mexico; 6pm in Buenos Aires and Montevideo; and 11pm in Euskal Herria. They invite “all euskaltzales in Colombia, the Diaspora and Basque Country,” View the program here
