Saladillo, Argentina. The initiative comes from local veteran, Guillermo Raul Ni Colo, and aims to honor the 649 fallen in the War of Malivnas by planting a tree for each of them. The challenge is to reach this number of trees planted by April 2022 the month marking the 40th anniversary of one of the darkest and sad moments in Argentine history.
The campaign, which has crossed borders reaching countries like Finland, and has summoned figures such as the Argentine actor, Mariano Martínez, already has the support of 750 people who individually, collectively or through institutions have planted a sapling.
The Saladillo Basque community will participate through the Itxaropen Basque Club whose members will plant an oak on July 10th. Besides making room to plant the sapling, and taking care of it, Itxaropen also invites other Basque clubs in the country to join the campaign. Contact Guillermo Raúl Ni Colo.
