San Nicolás, Argentina. The local Euskal Etxea has made it a habit and opening its doors to other institutions is its way of life. This time, it has done so to teach basic notions of the Basque language to preschool children and kids from the first cycle of public primary school. The designated schools will visit the Basque Club once a month and will enjoy activities using new technologies, and with the support of computers and videos, but also with classic tools such as flashcards, colored pencils, stories and song…There they will learn basic vocabulary, greetings, numbers and expressions that will allow them to be introduced to Euskera.
The project was the idea of Basque language students, especially the youngest, “who have the energy and desire to carry out activities with small children,” Basque club sources said. “In our Basque club it is difficult to engage this age group and we think this project could be useful in this sense,” they added.
Classes will be coordinated by the club’s Basque students and Euskera teacher who is also in charge of providing a snack to the small visiting students.
