As soon as the list was created, the youth from the Necochea Basque club let EuskalKultura.com know the names of the five Basque youth chosen to participate in the 2016 Hator Hona Program, who will be in charge of workshops and classes. The program will run July 15-August 7 in Necochea, also site in November of this year’s Semana Nacional Vasca.

Necochea, Argentina.   The Euzko Etxea Basque Club initiative geared towards youth in the club, will begin this year on July 15 and will run for three weeks.  During this time, five youth from the Basque Country will share their knowledge about the Basque culture with their peers to deepen the work carried out throughout the year at the Euskal Etxea.

The 2016 list includes: Amaia Álvarez Etxeberria, from Beasain; Mikel Arruti, from Andoain; Alaitz Imaz Arrondo, from Segura; Maite Murgia Ioldi, from Lazkao; and Julene Otegi Beldarrain, from Mungia. As Marcial Agostini Zubillaga, one of the program’s spokespersons told EuskalKultura.com, “The idea is to follow the dynamic of previous years, the workshops will be conducted by two at a time and we will finalize schedules and who is in charge of what, once they arrive.  What we can tell you for sure is that there will be classes in Basque, dance, music – trikitixa, pander and maybe event txalaparta, along with sports.”

Hator Hona is made possible thanks to the participants who pay their way from the Basque Country to Argentina, and that the Necochea Euskal Etxea takes care of room and board during their stay.  The youth at the club want to especially thank the club families who host these youth.  “And of course, everyone who has sent such wonderful messages again this year.  We don’t think that people in Euskal Herria understand what it means to our club to have so many people ready to come and give us a hand. Once again the applications have surpassed, unfortunately, the number that we are able to host.  But we want to let those who weren’t selected this time to know that our doors are always open to you,” Marcial added.

News and project updates will be published on the blog (Hator Hona) as well as on Facebook Hator Hona Project.
