The Haize Hegoa Basque Club in Montevideo send Christmas cards every year created by the children and youth to friends all over the Diaspora, decorated with typical characters like Olentzero, Mari Dominigi or Galtzagorri. The cards are created as part of a children’s “Christmas Traditions” contest that celebrates its 19th year. The event will take place next Saturday at the clubhouse with a reading about Basque Christmas, followed by everyone making cards.
Montevideo, Uruguay. The Haize Hegoa Basque Club in Montevideo has launched its 19th Children’s Contest “Christmas Traditions,” one of the most original activities at this Basque-Uruguayan entity. The club invites children between the ages of 4-16 to visit the Basque club on December 10th to create Christmas cards based on Basque traditions.
The Basque club will hold a talk beforehand, where Christmas and legends will be told. Afterwards the children will be able to design, paint and sketch their cards, with materials provided by the club and with the support of members of Haize Hegoa.
After the contest, while the jury is deliberating, there will be a snack served to the participants. Afterwards, there will be an awards ceremony with prizes for the most successful works, categorized by age. All participants will receive an acknowledgment.
The event will be held at the Haize Hegoa: Calle Isabela 3475 bis, on Saturday, December 10th at 10am.
