The Gure Txokoa Basque club started the second half of the year “like a machine.” On the one hand it participated in various community activities, promoting Basque dance and language. On the other, it welcomed Basque visitors who visited the city” on their way through Argentina. In the coming days, the dantzaris from Cordoba will perform at the Immigrants Day festivities on Friday September 18 and the Basque club will celebrate its traditional choir get-together in honor of Loyola.
Cordoba, Argentina. The Gure Txokoa has two invitations coming up, this Friday, September 4th the club will join in the Immigrant Day festivities with its dantzaris at the official event that will take place at the San Martin Plaza. It will also organize its traditional “Cordoba Sings to Loyola” event also on Friday. The 24th edition of this choir gathering will include choirs from the Cordoba Catholic University, the Cantoria de la Merced, and the Municipal Choir. It will begin a 9pm at the Cordoba Cultural Center on Poeta Lugones 401.
Basque Stand at the Cordoba Global Village
The Global Village is a multicultural event that gathers communities from all over the world in hopes of bringing their languages, dances, customs and typical dishes to the Forefront. In the Cordoba version of the event that took place on August 22 at the Studio Theater, Gure Txokoa participated with a dance performance by its dantzais, the Cordobatarrak, and also had a stand with food and information on the Basque Country.
On the other hand, the Cordobatarrak accompanied members of the Polish Circle at the Day of the Polish Soldier festivities in Cordoba held on August 15 as part of the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw. On this occasion, club president, Alejo Martin, was also present and addressed the public.
European Visitors
Throughout the month of August, the doors of Gure Txokoa were also opened to visitors from the Basque Country who came to the city for various reasons. During their Argentinean tour, the Daltondarrak music group from Bizkaia didn’t only spend some time with the youth of the club but also gave a recital, “with a song repertoire in Basque that thrilled everyone in the audience.” “The quartet formed promised to come back with more songs and sounds from the Basque Country,” Aletxu Lamayer, club dancer told EuskalKultura.com.
On August 23, visitors from Bergara, Gipuzkoa were welcomed to Gure Txokoa and were provided a menu of sea food and Basque cake. The dantzaris entertained during dinner that was also attended by Cordoba’s Directorate of Institutional Affairs, Marcelo Castagno.
