The distinction awarded by the Provincial Government, the National Director of Migration and the San Juan Federation of Collectivities took place as part of the Day of the Immigrant festivities, in hopes of highlighting the work of those who keep the roots of their homeland alive. It was a tremendous joy for the Basques in San Juan, who had also recently received the Delegate of Euskadi, Sara Pagola.
San Juan, Argentina. The Delegate of Euskadi for Argentina and Mercosur toured the region of Cuyo that included a visit to the Basque clubs in the area. During her visit in San Juan, Sara Pagola met with members of the Eusko Etxea and gave a talk on October 12th entitled, “Facilitating Touristic Development between Argentina and Euskadi” at the Sarmiento Legislature Library. After her talk, Pagola answered questions from the audience and shared refreshments provided by the hosts.
During her stay in San Juan, she also met with the vice-governor Marcelo Jorge Lima with whom she also exchanged gifts. Continuing her tour, Pagola also visited the city of Mendoza on Friday with a very similar program.
Recognition
In September, the events for the Day of the Immigrant took place in San Juan on the 5th. During the ceremony, in the Seca Plaza at the Civic Center, the Provincial Government along with the National Director of Migration and the San Juan Federation of Collectivities honored several local communities include the Eusko Etxea.
On behalf of the Basque club, its president Ofelia Larrea, received the certificate awarded for “the work in favor of the dissemination of the Basque culture,” presented by the vice-counsel Jose Antonio Garcia.
