Fresno, CA, USA. May 2nd was the date marked for the Fresno Basque Festival cancelled as many other due to the pandemic; but Basques in the area did not give in to the virus, and honored the date, not letting it go unnoticed. The Etchechury family, that manages the Fresno Santa Fe Basque Restaurant, celebrated on the internet, on Facebook and shared images so that all the Basques who usually attend would feel included.

Their celebration cheered up many and included many of the main elements of any Basque festival in the west, also a nod to the Etchechury family’s talent.  There was Basque dancing, accordion music, Klika, song and above all a huge dose of good humor and determination.

In the images we see Jean Pierre (MC and Klika), and Manuela (accordion); and their children Panpi Etchechury (dantza, Klika), Dominique Etchechury (dantza) together with Emma Manley (dantza), all Basques born in California with Lower Navarrese, Navarrese and Gipuzkoan origins. Biba ziek!

Zorionak eta segi hola-hola! (see videos and photos)
