Buenos Aires, Argentina. In hopes of providing an intensive Basque cultural immersion program during the summer break, the Colegio Euskal Etxea once again opens its doors to the Basque Summer University in February 2014.
This is the sixth edition of the Argentinean Basque Summer University (UVV) and the program will be divided into two big blocks. During the first week classes will be dedicated to Basque Culture with courses like history, architecture, film, music, dance, geography, sports, and economy. During the second week the theme will be the history of the Basque people with courses like the history of the Basque Country, law, literature, libraries, ethnology, institutions, clothing and the Basque language.
There will be time available to work on two written assignments and a visit to the Llavallol branch of the Euskal Echea School, on Saturday February 22, with lunch and a talk by Dr. Simon P. Soroet, president of the institution’s advisory board on: “The Euskal Echea Basque Cultural and Charity Association of Buenos Aires.” New this year, there will also be a course provided for teachers on improving Basque Culture that will take place in the morning of the first week.
UVV 2014 will conclude on Friday February 28 with an exhibit of the final assignments done by the students, a practical class on gastronomy and a closing talk by one of the invited professors. According to the tentative program, there is a possibility that Iñaki Perurena will participate. There will be a concert, blessing, and presentation of certificates complete with a farewell toast, according to organizers.
Anyone interested in receiving a diploma should submit a written work (500 words minimum) for work for the course and one of 1,500 words if it is for the entire program. A minimum of 90% attendance is also required. Enrollment will be open until December 16 and you can do so in person at the School headquarters at Sarandi 735, or via email: infouvv@euskalechea.org.ar. The cost for the complete program is 200 pesos (that includes the fieldtrip and lunch in Llavallol, and each class separately costs $100. There is also financial aid available
