Zerain, Gipuzkoa. More than one person would find having a maritime exhibit in the Goierri of Gipuzkoa kind of funny, but after visiting “Gu Itsasoa” the influence of the sea on Basque society, not just on the coast, will become more clear. The project has been supported by the Igartubeiti Baserri Museum, Albaola Elkartea and Zerain Paisaia Kulturala. At this time, the traveling exhibit can be seen at the Ethnographic Museum of Zerain, where it will remain until September, but for anyone who would like to have a virtual tour you can visit the website that also includes videos and news.
To begin the virtual tour, all you have to do is go to the website “Gu Itsasoa.” There you can enjoy the exhibit as well as additional content. If you want to visit the exhibit go here and click on the various chapters of the expo: An environment for going to the seal, Forests that navigate, Preparing for the sea, A different world… as well as interactive panels Maritime Routes that allows you to get to know the various routes used by Basque navigators for centuries.
When you return to the homepage you can also access additional content related to the exhibit. On the one hand the Blog, where related notices and messages regarding the exhibit are, for example, the drawing contest sponsored by the Albaola Association open until August 31. On the other hand, there is a Protagonist section where biographies of prominent Basque sailors can be found which is being updated with more content. Finally, on the Multimedia Channel you can see photos and videos of the exhibit along with a report on Zerain today.
