Eguzkia (Sun) includes articles on various Basque topics. Nevertheless, as each of the Basque club’s channels of communication, the club will also include information on its activities and projects, including the ones with a more lateral connection with the Basque culture. The first issue of the magazine was presented during the commemoration of the anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, and is already available online.
La Plata, Argentina. Recuperating a club tradition, the Euzko Etxea in La Plata is once again publishing a magazine that will serve as its voice. Due to the tradition of producing cultural magazines at the club that began with the Eguzkia (1973-1977), followed by Aldaketa (1989), Irrintxi (1992), and Hargatik (1995-2014), a new edition of Eguzkia has now been added, named in honor to the editions published in the 70s.
The new magazine Eguzkia will come out quarterly online and free of charge. Articles will be included in various sections including history of the Basques in Argentina, institutionalization process with the creation of Basque clubs across the country, Basque music, library heritage, Euskera and various activities that the club carries out. In the same way, according to the board of directors, “Continuing our policy of institutional openness we will also include issues that don’t necessarily have to do with the Basque culture, but with local issues that our club has strongly inserted in the La Plata society, that warrant reflection.”
A “New Sun” in Gernika
“As a symbol of negative situations that can be overcome and that we can be reborn from….” Euzko Etxea presented the new magazine as part of this commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, specifically at the inauguration of the exhibit “Memory and Oblivion of the Spanish Civil War: from Belchite to Gernika,” by Eduardo Arreseygor. During the inauguration there was also an Aurresku performed by one of the club’s dancers, and a recital by the Euskal Etxea’s choir directed by Evangelina Bertola.
The new magazine from the Basque club in La Plata is now available online and can be seen or downloaded from euskaletxeak.net or at this link. Even if the first issue is only available online, club reference, Maria Fernanda Astigarraga, told EuskalKultura.com that some future editions may also come out in paper. Ongi etorri, Eguzkia!
