Eusko Etxea of Corpus Christi has unveiled the program for its Basque-Argentinean Cultural Festival

In adherence with the Feast of its Patron Saint, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the Corpus Christi Basque club, in the Northern Mesopotamia region of Argentina has organized a cultural festival that will take place on July 27-29. The goal of the festival is to gather Basques and Basque descendants to participate in activities such as hikes, rural sports, kids’ games, talks, theater productions, music, and dance among others. The big Basque-Argentinean festival will start on Friday the 27 with a reception at the Tourism Office in San Ignacio, and will end on the 19 with lunch. It should be noted that the event was declared of provincial interest.

Corpus Christi, Argentina.  A one of its kind event will take place at the end of the month thanks to the young Basque club of Corpus Christi.  The big Basque-Argentinean cultural festival will last for three days and will allow attendees, especially tourists, to get to know area attractions as well as get involved with the local Basque community that is working hard to assure that the event is a success.  This is the program of activities published by the local Basque club: 

Friday July 27
Reception at the Casilla de Turismo (Arco at the entrance of San Ignacio).

-10:00: Award ceremony for the Literary Contest “Amazing Stories IV” in the youth category (also for adults who were not able to attend the June 2 event).   Presentation of the First Literary Anthology Contest “Amazing Stories.”

-13:00: Lunch, with award winner present.

-Walk along tourist attractions in San Ignacio (Prize instituted by the municipality of San Ignacio to winners of the literary contest.) Visit to the following places: House-Museum of Horacio Quiroga, Rock Formation Teyú Cuaré; Orchid gardens "The tacuaritas" of Teyú Cuaré, Club Rio, Jesuit Reduction "San Ignacio Mini," self-guided tour with  Light & Sound. [The euskal etxea also extends the invitation to adult winners who could not attend prior events.]

Saturday July 28

16:00: “Origin and Evolution of the Basque Diaspora,” presented by Professor César Arrondo.  Place: Social Club.  The Euskal Etxea would like to thank FEVA for helping organizing this event

-17:30: Tamborrada workshop by Dario Sena from Santo Pipo.  Open who everyone wishing to participate.

-19:00: Mass at the Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish

-20:00: San Ignacio festivities.  Activities organized together with parish groups.  Meet in front of Saint Ignatius church after mass and walk to the Plazoleta Independencia.  Kalejira and tamborrada directed by Jose Acuña from Santo Pipo (with the cooperation of the city of Santo Pipo).

-20:45: Basque-Argentinean Fire.  Performance by the Lagun Artean group from the Corpus Christi Basque club.  Play: "The wedding" with the characters by famous painter Florencio Molina Campos. Performance of nearly 30 characters, represented by people of Corpus Christi, Governor Roca, San Ignacio and Leandro N. Alem. Performance of local folklore.

-Dinner.  Entertainment shared with visitors who would like to attend: Dining room: “La Familia.”

Sunday July 29

-10:00 Literary picnic, artists, and recreation in the Parque de la House-Museum Horacio Quiroga.  Reading of plays: “La Guerra de los yacarés,” by Horacio Quiroga by the Grandmothers and Mothers, “Cuenta-Cuentos” of San Ignacio.  Basque culture; Myths, Basque Mythology.  Play performances: Mari (Basque Goddess) by the Lagun Artean group.  Performances by Corpus Christi Basque club youth and children.  Games based on rural Basque sports lead by physical education teachers, with special collaboration by Mirta Sersing and her workmates.  Contests organized by the students of San Ignacio.  Prizes awarded to the winners (those interested in visiting the house-museum of Horacio Quiroga may also do so. Entrance if free of charge).

-Farwell lunch, entertainment, open to all who would like to attend.
