Caracas, Venezuela. The Basque club in the Venezuelan capital elected its board on February 29th and reelected Ibane Azpiritxaga in as its president. The new Board of Directors, in the words of Azpiritxaga “is a diverse team with very capable people to carry out the club’s projects,” it is already working on what is the club’s current priority. “The most important goal, in such a difficult time for our country, is making sure that our members and the entire Basque community in Venezuela in insured,” Azpiritxaga told EuskalKultura.eus. “Today medical insurance has become a luxury and we have been able to secure a very affordable plan with high coverage,” he continued.
As part of its main objective, the Eusko Etxea is also creating a foundation for the Basque community in Venezuela, aimed above all on health topics. “As you can see, projects are designed to offer members support service. This does not mean that we will not continue our usual cultural activities; only we believe that it doesn´t make sense to keep the Basque club standing if people cannot participate because of unresolved basic needs,” he concluded.
Second Term
After the club’s General Assembly, the club was surprised by the re-election of Azpiritxaga who had announced that he would not run again. He expalins that “for different reasons outside of the club, members of the previous board had to leave their duties, and in the end the management of everything fell to two people, one of them was me. Under those conditions, I could not continue, but when I raised the possibility of putting together a new team, the proposal suited me very well. I think we will get it, and am sure that the projects are going to take shape," the 24 years old young Venezuelan said.
