Coronel Pringles, Argentina. Encouraged by last year’s success, the Eusko Alaia Basque Choir returned to the city of Necochea to participate in another edition of the international choral event “Coraliada.” The group, comprised of 23 singers, directed by Ana Sassoni, performed its bilingual repertoire, in Euskera and Spanish, and was the only Basque choir present.
After a series of performances at local schools and theaters, all of the groups at the event, some 400 singers, performed a Batucada through the streets of the city. Eusko Alaia joined the ranks and did so carrying an Ikurriña.
Remember that this choir was born in the heart of the Eusko Biltzar Basque Club and has represented the club at events locally, and elsewhere, for nine years. In the last few years they have performed in Tandil, General Roca, Gualeguaychú and Bahía Blanca among other places.
Distinction at Immigrant’s Day Festivities
The Eusko Biltzar Basque Club in Coronel Pringles also informed us of its participation at the events for Immigrant’s Day organized by the city. Last Saturday, September 7, the ceremony in front of the Monument of the Immigrants took place, led by Mayor Carlos Berterret. The national anthem was sung and flags were raised by each community present. Representatives of the Basque Club were there, as well as those from the Rotary Club where the association distinguished people from entities that are references in each community for “Their social, cultural, humanitarian, commercial and business values,” and their contributions to the community. In the case of the Basque community, Pedro Mario de Uriarte and the store El Molino were honored.
The festivities continued on September 9 at the Immigrants’ canteen, as every year in the Martin Irebertgeui Hall with the “Gauchos Bonfire.” The hall was filled to capacity with those who came to revel in the cultural and gastronomic proposal. Members of Eusko Biltzar shared their dances and a menu that included lomo. The festivities concluded with the election of the Queen of Collectivities. The club’s candidate, Lucia Angladette was chosen as first princess.
