The invitation was very well-received and neighboring Basque clubs and Basque students and teachers from San Miguel, José C. Paz, San Nicolás and San Pedro joined those from the Eusketxe at its first “Euskalariak,” get-together, a day dedicated especially to Euskera. The Eusketxe - Eusko Kultur Etxea Basque Cultural Center in Buenos Aires expressed its interest in making this an annual activity.
Buenos Aires, Argentina. As in the worlds of the Oskorri song “speak and play in Basque (Euskaraz, hitz eta jolas),” the Eusko Kultur Etxea in Buenos Aries organized “Euskalariak” on September 24 with the participation of representatives from Basque clubs in San Miguel, José C. Paz, San Nicolás and San Pedro. As the organizers explained to EuskalKultura.com, “initially, we thought of this activity as a day for the local Basque students and teachers, but eventually we started inviting friends and acquaintances and in the end, a lot of people joined in.”
The day began at noon with lunch prepared by Center's sukaldari, Gracietla “Patxi,’ Iglesias. After lunch, those present participated in various games that made them apply their knowledge of Euskera and practice their vocabulary, esaera zaharrak (sayings) and songs, among other things…
When it was snack time, students and teachers returned to the patio and closed the event by singing with the help of a karaoke and also danced thanks to Aitor Alava, who taught a dance class in Basques. “The idea of the proposal was to get more comfortable speaking and using Basque, whatever level of Basque that we may possess, and apply it to each activity concretely,” according to the organizers.
Talk on Mythology
Also at the Lizarraenea house headquarters of Eusketxe, the talk entitled, “Zugarramurdi, Mythology and Witchcraft” was given on Friday September 16 as part of the “Cultural Routes” series, by Professor of Social Sciences, Diego Orellana.
