Valencia, Spain. The Laurak Bat Basque Club in Valencia let us know that they have opened their 7th Literary Contest “Letters from the Diaspora,” to Basque speakers and Basque students from around the world. It is opened themed and submissions can not exceed two pages, in two categories, Basque students and fluent speakers. Submissions may be in Batua as well as in any of the dialects, and winners will receive books. Deadline to submit works is January 24, 2020.
1.- Letters should be written in Basque in any of its varieties. They should be original and have not been awarded, or published elsewhere.
2.- Maximum length is 2 pages spaced 1.5 using Arial 12 font single sided. The genre is epistolary and free themed.
3.- The contest is divided into two categories:
- A -Those learning Basque
- B -Euskaldunak or those who speak Basque regularly
4.- Works should be submitted via email and include the title as well as the category, name and address and phone and email of the author
5.- Works should be submitted to gurelehiaketak@gamil.com including “Literary Contest" in the subject line. They can also be mailed to the Valencia Euskal Etxea, Carrer del Peu de la Creu, 8, 46001 Valencia. Deadline is January 24, 2020
6.- The jury will be comprised of figures of the world of Basque culture in Valencia and the Euskal Etxea
7.- The Jury’s decision is final and prizes will be awarded in both categories, or in neither. Contest organizers reserve the write to publish the works presented
8.- Prizes will be a selection of books in Basque in each category
9.- The awards ceremony will take place during the Literary Gala Dinner on January 31, 2020
10.- Participating in the contest supposed acceptance of all of its rules
11.- The works that are not awarded will be destroyed. The winning works will become the property of the contest organizers
