The Miami Basque club has begun the year inviting everyone to a special event n February 21.  The event is called “1st Annual Winter Kirolak Picnic & Paella Competition” and will include paella, food, good wine, music, herri kirolak, mus and a great Basque time.  All proceeds will go to Joseba Larrazabal. 

[UPDATE 01/15/2015: As communicated to us by the Euskal Etxea of Miami, they just found out that Chef Juan Mari Arzak is going to be honored in Miami on the same day and so they have decided to postpone the Jaialdi until further notice.  We will communicate the new dates as soon as that information becomes available.  

Miami, FL. With the tireless support and enthusiasm of Boni Guenechea, the Miami Euskal Etxea hopes to start 2015 by combining fun and solidarity.  In this case, Joseba Andoni Larrazabal, from Bakio will benefit from all the proceeds as he is currently undergoing treatment in Florida.  Joseba is receiving the benefits of the campaign that started over a year ago by the Miami Basque club, who will once again, on this occasion donate all the proceeds to him.

The “1st Annual Winter Kirolak Picnic & Paella Competition” will take place on February 21st at the Royal Palm (10350 SW 232 St Miami, FL 33190) and will include rural Basque sports demonstrations including harrijasotzea, aizkolaris, soka tira and txinga-probak (weight carrying contest). There will also be a paella contest (with all ingredients, and materials being provided by the club).  Here is the program:

• 11:00 am: Registration and 'hamaiketako' (txistorra and taloa)
• 12:00-14:00: Herri Kirolak exhibition
• 14:00: Paella contest, pintxos and wine
• 15:00: Paella lunch
• 16:00 Mus tournament (8 kings)
• 18:00 Awards
