On December 5 a group of Basques in the southwest of the United Kingdom gathered to official present the Bristol Euskal Etxea, the second Basque club in the country. At an official event the board of directors was elected and they also voted on the finalists in the logo contest that included several entries on Facebook.
Bristol, UK. The Euskal Etxea in Bristol is already officially underway and its members are working hard and very excitedly, and putting together new projects. It is a very young club, but they have been able to gather a handful of Basques from Bristol, Bath and the surrounding areas on Facebook, along with non-Basques, including some English and other nationalities. At the official club presentation 17 people participated with 10 being Basque, 5 English, 1 Irish and 1 Italian.
The first board of directors was elected at the meeting and they also voted on the finalists in the club’s logo contest. The contest took place on Facebook where many proposals were submitted (some can be seen here.) The final vote will take place in January as club secretary Iñaki Azpiazu told EuskalKultura.com.
After the official presentation, there was a Basque performance. Basques in Bristol then celebrated with a meal, with a typical Basque menu including: pintxos, beans with the fixings and dessert of cheese and nuts. Zorionak to the Brisoleko Euskal Etxea!
