Puerto Madryn, Argentina. The first board of directors of the Puerto Madryn Basque club, in the province of Chubut, Patagonia was elected in April 2011. Since then, and under the name of Etorritakoengatik (literally, for the ones who came), the Basque community has gotten organized and become very active. Not having a clubhouse obliges them, however to meet and carry out various activities in venues that belong to other entities, such as at local schools. That is why the club has asked the city for a space in which to settle.
Andres Elorriaga, Etorritakoengatik’s president told EuskalKultura.com that “Two weeks ago I met with the Mayor to begin the necessary steps to have our own locale and last week I made a formal presentation to the city, asking for a piece of land that is just in front of the Euskadi Plaza, a plaza that carries the name of the Basque Country in honor of the Basque community who has participated in the city’s progress. We have taken the first step, now we have to wait for the process to be adjudicated.”

The Basque community is completely integrated in this community and has actively participated in city events since its foundation. The official events last Sunday, May 25th, were not an exception and the Ikurriña flew in the local military parade thanks to Basque club standard bearers.

The club invites everyone to participate in the Production and Design Fair as part of the “Madryn al Plato.” The event, which aims to bring together genuine local producers and other groups wishing to make themselves known, will take place on June 21-22 in School #84 Gym, located on the corner of Mitre and Samento. The Basque Country will be doubly represented here by Etorritakoengatik as well by Chef from Donostia, Borja Blazquez who is one of the events invited guests.
The club will also offer a dinner for its members and friends who always participate in its activities, also on June 21st. The dinner will take place in the gym at School #728 and will have a stage where the dantzari txikis and adults will perform.
In September, the club will organize another event. With representatives of the Jewish, German, Welsh, Spanish, and Italian communities, among others, with provincial government organizations, the local city authorities, migrations and INADI, Basques will also be part of the Immigrants Festival from September 4-7th. The organizing committee presented a project for consideration to become a Provincial level Festival.
