The Donostia Restaurant is triumphing with its Basque food offerings among the wide range of offerings in London.  Its menu includes pintxos and traditional dishes, although, “always with a modern touch and great attention paid to quality and fresh products.” The restaurant announced yesterday that it is looking for a cook to include on the team.  Details of the job follow. 

London, England.   The Donostia Restaurant in London has published a job announcement to choose a new cook who will become part of the team directed by Chef Damian Surowiec.  As they explained to EuskalKultura.com, training in Basque cuisine is not mandatory.  It is a permanent position, after a probationary period.

Characteristics of the job include:

-The selected person will help members of the cooking team to carry out their work

-He/she will be charge of elaborating the service that is under his/her charge

-Needs to be able to work as a member of a team so that service takes place without incident

-Must be inspired and bring ideas for new dishes

-Will direct junior members of the team and teach them

The restaurant has indicated that the person selected should comply with the following:

  • Have previous experience
  • Be able to lead
  • Be able to promote and discipline the demands of the staff
  • Be able to work under pressure and lead others
  • Have attention to detail
  • Be able to work as a team and create a good atmosphere
  • Be responsible

The Donostia Restaurant is situated in Marylebone, and is managed by Chef Damian Surowiec.  The owners and founders of the restaurant are Nemanja Berjanovic and Melody from Serbia and the UK respectively, wine importers and people that after a trip to the Basque Country immediately fell in love with its food and decided to bring it to England. They have enjoyed much success and last year opened another restaurant across from the Donostia that is called Lurra whose specialty is the grill.
