Iruña-Pamplona, Navarra. The
film "Emak Bakia Baita", by Oskar Alegria, is getting a
great reception at international festivals and has several projections
on the agenda for the coming months. The film, about the search for the ¨Emak Bakia¨ house, has a touch of surrealism and has been getting critical acclaim. The house was influential to photographer and filmmaker Man
Ray, and, as Alegria found out, is located on the coast of Lapurdi.
Soon there will be two opportunities to see the film in Euskal Herria. Tomorrow, in the Alhondiga of Bilbao, Alegria will present a special screening at the literary festival Zuria Gutun. It will be at 8:00 p.m., with the participation of writer Harkaitz Cano.
That
same day the film will also be shown in Madrid, at the Cinematheque Matadero, where they are conducting several special passes.
The last four will be tomorrow, on April 25th and 26th and May 3rd. "Last week's projections reached many people in the Basque Etxea, and
many Basque professionals living in Madrid," Oskar Alegria told EuskalKultura.com. On April 24th, the film will also be shown at the cultural center Koldo Mitxelena of Donostia, in Basque.
America in May
Later this month the film will begin an American tour, which starts on April 26th in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. It will be shown there until May 2nd, as part of the Mexico Itinerant Festival.
From
there, it will travel to San Francisco, California, to participate in the San
Francisco International Film Festival, where the film has been selected for the Official Section. The projections are the 4th, 6th and 9th of May (more details here). From the
USA the film will travel to Canada, specifically Vancouver, where it will be shown May 10th at
the DOXA Documentary Film Festival (more details here).
Finally, on May 17, film and director will return to San Francisco, for a special screening at the Basque Cultural Center. "We have organized this with the collaboration of Philippe Acheritogaray, from the BCC," said Alegria. He also noted that he tried to contact the Bat Zazpiak Vancouver to do something similar, but so far hasn´t been successful.
On to Ecuador, Lima, Tel Aviv, Sydney ...
Alegria has proved willing to show the movie to the Basque communities and organize special screenings in the Basque etxeak. So, watch for upcoming appointments. "Soon
we will go to Ecuador, Lima, Warsaw, Galway, Tel Aviv, Sydney ... Oh,
who would have told us when we first started in Lapurdi!" concludes the
director.
