José C. Paz, Argentina. Sociologist, Paula Basaldua, a reference of Ekitatea, “an organization dedicated to the promotion of women’s rights and gender equality,” was designated last week as the coordinator of the recently created Gender Cabinet of the Nation’s Ministry of Productive Development. According to Basaldua, in a conversation with EuskalKultura.eus, her advisory work began in June, but when the cabinet was formed, Minister Matias Kulfas called upon her to carry out this task.
The Basque-Argentine sociologist is “happy” to be part of this historical time in which “it is recognized that public policies can improve people’s lives. In this sense I assume the great responsibility of the coordination of the strategy of transversality of the gender approach to policies of the Ministry of Development, understanding that it is necessary to translate these commitments into concreate actions,” she said.
“What I have learned in this field,” she continues, “is strongly linked to the experiences of gender equality in the Basque Country that are a beacon for me, since I see them at the forefront of transversality and as references of development sustainable with gender equity. These perspectives were strengthened from my participation in the field in the Argentine Basque community, both in research and dissemination activities.”
In regards to the connection with the community and specifically the possibility of continuing activities at Basque clubs, especially in regards to gender, the member of the board of directors of the Toki Eder Basque Club expressed her willingness to continue” supporting” specific issues. At the same time, she will continue her research project on Basque migration in the city of Jose C Paz from a gender perspective a project in which the center’s Basque teacher, Martin Colombet, also participates.
Zorionak, Paula!
