Entitled, “Euskal Zinema - Filme aus dem Baskenland,” the series includes eight films that aim to provide the German public the possibility of getting to know “some of the most significant Basque films of the last half century.”  The activity enjoys the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Municipal Office of Culture, the Berlin Euskal Etxea, the Language and Literature Institute at the University of Goethe and the Basque Film Archive (Euskadiko Filmategia - Filmoteca Vasca).  The events are being coordinated by Lourdes Izagirre and Petra Palmer. 

Frankfurt, Germany.   Eight films will be part of this summer Basque film series at the Deutsches Filmmuseum museum.  The series, “Euskal Zinema - Filme aus dem Baskenland,” will take place throughout the month from July 4-25, Split over five sessions from Tuesday to Sunday.  The last installment took place last Tuesday and included the collaboration of filmmaker and researcher Iratxe Fresneda.  Invited by the organization, Fresneda presented Amalur and talked about the context in which it was conceived and responded to questions about contemporary Basque cinema.

-July 4th: Vacas (1992) by Julio Medem

July 9th:  Short Gure hormek (2016); and Loreak (2015) by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga

July 11th:  short by Nestor Basterretxea Operacion H (1963); and Amalur (1968), by Nestor Basterretxea and Fernando Larruquert

July 18th: a short Beti bezperako koplak (2016), by Ageda Kopla Taldea; and 27 Horas (1986), by Montxo Armendariz

July 25th: Emak Bakia (1926) by Man Ray; and Eman Bakia Baita (2012), by Oskar Alegria

The initiative is supported by Etxepare Basque Institute and the Municipal Office of Culture, the Berlin Euskal Etxea, and the Language and Literature Institute at the University of Goethe and the Basque Film Archives, along with the Deutsches Filmmuseum itself.  Lourdes Izagirre Ondarra, Basque language and culture lecturer at the University of Frankfurt is coordinating the event along with film programmer Petra Palmer.
