The department of Basque philology at the Complutense University organizes a conference on multilingualism in Madrid

At the end of the month, the Complutense University in Madrid will be the site for a conference on multilingualism on the Iberian Peninsula. The event has been organized by the department of Basque Philology at the university and among the presentations there will be two talks on Basque entitled, “What does a Girl Like me do with a Language like Basque? The Standardization of Basque as a Social Movement,” and “The Languages Spoken in the Iberian Vasconia: Spasque and Euskerish.”

Madrid, Spain.  The Department of Basque Philology at the Complutense University in Madrid has organized a conference on multilingualism on the Iberian Peninsula at the end of the month.  The conference will talk about languages like Basque, Catalan, Galician, Spanish, Portuguese and immigrant languages.  The conference is not only directed at philologists, but also to anyone who is interested in the topic, and it is free. 

The aim of the conference is to “present multilingualism as part of the culture that enriches the society and so something that should be preserved,” according to organizers.  The conference was organized with the collaboration of the Etxepare Basque Institute.  Anyone wishing to attend should enroll before November 21, sending the enrollment form, here.
