New York, NY, USA. The delegate of the Basque Government in the United States, Jorge Fernandez, participated in an event organized by the Office of Intergovernmental Coordination and Support for Sustainable Development at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations (UNDESA), where he presented the work done on the development and implementation of the Euskadi Basque Country 2030 Agenda, according to the government in a note.
The delegate also presented various reflections on the success of Euskadi’s participation in the High Level Political Forum last July at the United Nations, and shared some ideas to increase the participation and impact of sub-state governments in said forum in 2019.
Jorge Fernandez shared a panel with Alexandra Hiniker, Director of Strategic Relations Programs at the Office of International Affairs of the city of New York. They exchanged experiences and ideas for the joint work of cities and regions in the successful implementation of the Agenda 2030, as well as joint participation in future multilateral forums linked to this government priority.
The Basque Government was the only government invited to participate in the event that was also attended by delegates to the United Nations of the Permanent Mission of Mexico, Monaco and Guatemala, among others so concludes the note from Eusko Jaurlaritza.
