Participants in the Bilbao-Bordeaux 2016, organized by the Bordeaux Basque club spent three days on the road.  They arrived to Bordeaux last Saturday, tired but happy, and received a great welcome that also included a txaranga.  The celebration included the presentation of certificates form the Basque club.  Additionally, the club also held a talk on the regions of Europe this week that generated great interest.  Following galleries of both events.

Bordeaux France.  The Bordeaux Euskal Etxea  was very satisfied by how the cycle-tourism Bilbo-Bordele 2016 event went. “Everything went really well and the participants were very happy with the organization,” Pierre Vauthier, member of the organizing team and club member told EuskalKultura.com.

The race had 220 participants, members of cycling clubs SC Bilbaina, SC Urgozo from Amorebieta, Stade Bordelai Asptt from Bordeaux and the Bordeaux Basque club.  It is the third edition of this event, which began running in the other direction from Bordeaux to Bilbao.

The event is more than just cycle-tourism, since participants are from different areas that promotes a very enriching culture exchange.  This year, there were also participants from other countries like Australia, England and Holland.

The first stage of the journey was between Bilbao and Donostia; the second went from Donostia to Leon (Landes), and finally the last day took the riders to their goal in Bordeaux.  At the end of each stage there was musical entertainment, txalapartaris, and cultural activities.  The tour ended on Saturday in Bordeaux with a very warm welcome that included a txaranga and an awards party where the Basque club presented certificates. Zorionak to everyone who participated!

In other news, last Tuesday the Bordeaux Basque club also organized a talk entitled, “Everyone United in Diversity? Europe facing its Regional Minorities” (Tous unis dans la diversité? L'Europe face à ses minorités régionales) that gathered a large crowd interested in knowing more about the topic.  The talk included the participation of Mikel Anton Zarragoitia, director of the Basque Governments European Affairs; Pantxoa Etchegoin, director of Euskal Kultural Erakundea and Jean-Charles Leygues, former official in the European Commission.
