In the year of its 140th anniversary that will be celebrated in July with a special program, Euskal Etxea of Cuba, has organized a special program this week to celebrate Aberri Eguna, The festivities began yesterday, and will conclude on Sunday with the actual annual festive gathering, this year at the La Cecilia resort that will include a children’s Korrika. Today and tomorrow talks, film screenings and other events at the provisional club headquarters.
Havana, Cuba. The centuries-old Basque club in Havana has announced its program of events for Monday and Wednesday of this week at its provisional headquarters located at 615 between Reina and Estrella, downtown Havana, in accordance of an agreement with the Natives of Ortigueira Association. Activities will take place from 14:00-20:00 and the club bar will also be open at this time, with screenings and other cultural activities beginning a 16:30 including the screening of Gernika Story, The Segovia Big Band (in its most up-to-date version) and Nomadak.
These activities are also in conjunction with the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika. Proceeds from the bar will be dedicated to cover the costs of the 140th anniversary of the club that will take place the week of July 10th.
On next Sunday, Aberri Eguna, the invitation is extended to Basques and non-Basques alike at the La Cecilia Resort located at 5ta. And 112, Municipio Playa, Havana. Festivities will begin at 10:30am with a children’s Korrika. The night before, on Saturday the 15th, a mus tournament will be hosted by the Peña Athletic Club of Cuba.
