The literary contest “Amazing Stories,” organized by Corpus Christi Eusko Etxea is celebrating its 9^th edition this year and organizers have decided to give a new step and invite writers in Spanish, Euskera and Mbyá-guaraní to take part. The local Basque Club has a strong commitment not just with Basques and the Basque culture, but also with the local native communities, their language and culture.

Corpus Christi, Argentina.   Another edition of the “Amazing Stories” Literary Contest has arrived, organized by the Atahualpa Yupanqui Library at the Eusko Etxea Basque Club.  This year’s edition has expanded the challenge by now dividing the contest into three categories: Spanish, Basque and Mbyá-Guaraní.

The theme of the contest is “Mysterious Presences,” and the deadline to submit entries is May 31^st.  In regards to the rules, identical in all three languages, they are provided here:

Rules for the 2017 “Amazing Stories” Literary Contest IX:

Theme:  Mysterious Presences. The title of the work should be different from the theme.  Presentation:  Works can be written in Spanish, Basque or Mbyá-Guaraní, and should be unpublished.  The story shouldn’t be longer than three pages, using Arial font size 12, and spaced 1.5.  Submissions:  Works may be submitted beginning March 6-May 31, 2017, in the following ways:

A – Via the internet or email: relasombroso5@gmail.com. Two attachments should be sent in one email, one with the story with a pen-name, and in the other archive, the personal information of the author including: pen-name chosen, name and last name, birth date, DNI, address and email.  

B.-Via regular mail, with the same information included in A. These can be mailed to: Eusko Etxea, Corpus Christi. Calle Suiza entre Francisco Mónaco y Av. Los Jesuitas. C.P: 3327. Corpus Christi. Provincia de Misiones. República Argentina.

Jury: The jury will be made up of three people, one in each language and will convene in June.

Prizes:  The five best stories will receive a book and a certificate.  Ten stories will receive honorable mention, as well as a certificate but via email.  The awards ceremony will take place at the Atahualpa Yupanqui Public Library on Saturday, July 23^rd at 10am as part of the 2017 Basque-Argentine and Mbya-Guaraní Cultural Festival.

The Corpus Christi Basque Club reserves the right to keep the winning stories in the library, as well as those that are chosen for readers’ use, to various ends: library use, publications and/or publication in possible anthologies.

A Bet from a corner of Misiones

The Basque club is small and relatively young, celebrating its first 10 years in 2015 with much activity that not only spreads the Basque culture but also that of native communities.  The work that the club has done with the Mbyá community are not only those of solidarity, but also those that make their culture more visible.  In accordance with this goal, and knowing that “it is an unpublished and a great challenge,” the Basque club has made this year’s contest trilingual for the first time accepting texts in Spanish, Euskera and Mbyá-Guarani.

The club has the support of referential institutions in each of the three languages that are included in the contest.  IN regards to Spanish, it has the backing of the Society of Missionary Writers who will be in charge of choosing three writers who will serve as judges.  In the case of Euskera, the Basque Language School in Buenos Aires, Euskaltzaleak, by its teachers and a committee of advanced students will choose the winning text.  In regards to Mbyá, there will be a jury comprised of teachers of this language selected by Professor Jorgelina Duarte, from the Mbya Language and Literature Department at the Bilingual High School in Yacutinga.
