Macachín, Argentina. Last Saturday, just before the beginning of the 41st National Mus Tournament, the inauguration of a bust in honor of Euzko Alkartasuna President, Iñaki Unamuno in the walkway by the same name in the Independence Plaza took place. In the cold sunny morning, a large number of people from the city attended to accompany Unamuno in the ceremony that began with an Aurresku with the Mayor, Jorge Cabak, also in attendance. According to the newspaper La Arena, the mayor uttered extraordinarily complimentary words about the honoree: “Iñaki is a legend. Iñaki forged the culture of our beautiful community. He made Machine known in the world. This Basque, who transcended borders, became the image of our people. He is not a foreigner, Iñaki is Macachin,” the Mayor said (Complete speech here: La Arena).
During the ceremony, also attended by FEVA president Arantxa Anitua and Basque Country Delegate Sara Pagola, the Delegate of Euskadi referred to Unamuno as “the best Basque qualities. Iñaki represents the deepest values of Basque loyalty, honesty, work (…). He also represents something very valuable to me: humility. He is a good person, besides being a good Macachinense,” Pagola affirmed.
When the bust was unveiled, Iñaki Unamuno was accompanied by the mayor and by references of the Basque community along with his family. The bust is located on the Iñaki Unamuno walkway in the Independence Plaza in front of the Euskal Etxea. Other photos of the event here.
